Side One
  • Raga Multani - Kavan Des Gaye - Bilampat, Taal - Ektaal

This raga is usually expounded in the afternoon and is very serene and sublime in mood. It Permits of all the seven notes both in the ascent (aroha) and in the descent (avaroha) but the notes Re (second), Ga (third) and Dha (sixth) are flat (komal) whereas the fourth note (Ma) and seventh (Ni) are sharp (teevra). Multani is a difficult melody and only a very few artistes are able to achieve complete mastery over this raga. Hirabai Barodekar is one of them and in fact she is known above anything else for the rendering of this raga.

  • Raga Multani - Aisi Kahan Preet Lagai - Drut, Taal - Teentaal
The slow moving composition with which the artiste starts her performance is confined to the Ek-taal rhythm which has 12 equal beats. After a very satisfying and pleasing demonstration lasting for about 15 minutes during the course of which the artiste develops the raga in an elaborate and attractive manner, she passes on to another composition in a faster tempo, Here she employes a rhythm of 16 beats known as Teen-taal and his composition affords the artiste an opportunity of demonstrating her skill in evolving Taan patterns of picturesque designs.
Side Two
  • Raga Yaman - Sugar Bana - Bilampat, Taal - Ektaal
This is essentially an evening melody and is usually performed as an introductory or opening item of a classical concert. In its framework this melody permits all the seven notes of the octave both in the ascent (aroha) and in the descent (avaroha) and a peculiarity of this raga is that there is not a single flat note either in the ascent or in the descent. Yaman has a mood of serene quietness and there fore it is best suited for compositions of a sublime and devotional characer.
  • Raga Yaman - Mori Gagar Na Bharan De - Drut, Taal - Teentaal
The artiste opens with a slow moving composition in a rhythmic cycle of 12 beats known as Ek-taal. The exposition is very neatly planned and there follows a gradual development of the raga which fascinates the listener with its artistry. After unfolding the main shades of the raga the artiste switches on to a faster composition confined to a rhythm of 16 beats known as Teen-taal and the skill she displays in fast tempo bears ample testimony to her eminent positionin the classical field.
